THE STORY: After years of wearing long hair, Susanne was ready to donate it to Locks of Love. To ensure that the cut would still look feminine, we called Justine at Root Salon, who perused Susanne’s photos of Michelle Williams and Carey Mulligan’s close crops for inspiration.
OUR STYLIST'S TAKE: “We wanted to find lines that would suit Susanne’s new haircut—something femme to bring out her features and highlight her athletic body, but also something that would also fit her lifestyle. Call it everyday-fashion practical magic.”

FIRST IMPRESSIONS: “I freaked out a little at first about the hair—it’s dramatic! I have gotten so many compliments and I like it now. I loved the clothes—it’s a confidence-booster to put beautiful clothes on that fit properly. I don’t often get my hair and makeup done, so that was a total treat!”

Amanda Kautt, owner of designer bridal boutique L’atelier Couture, refers all her blushing brides to one place: root. “[Stylist] Molly Black is amazing at bridal updos,” Kautt says. “She has a really creative perspective and spends time getting to know each bride’s personality.” Black’s inventive hairstyles aren’t the only reason we love root.
